WelcomeI am a doctoral candidate in the University of Maryland, College Park, Government and Politics' (GVPT) PhD program. My research focuses on global authoritarianism, diaspora mobilization, and transnational advocacy and its impact on public opinion.
My dissertation examines transnational repression, or the repression of emigrants and/or members of diasporas by (usually authoritarian) sending states across international borders. I am gathering data on host states complicity in and responses to compiled incidents of transnational repression, asking what factors lead states to be more defensive of their sovereignty. My work has been published in the Journal of Peace Research and the Washington Post's "Monkey Cage" blog. I hold an M.A. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, and a B.A. from Davidson College. I have traveled extensively in the Middle East and South Asia, including six months working in Palestinian schools and language education centers in the West Bank, and have conducted fieldwork interviewing diaspora activists in London and Washington, D.C. |
